HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes 1966-04-199O ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO HELD TUESDAY, APRIL 19, 1966 TIME; PLACE= CALL TO ORDER= PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE~ ROLL CALL = RESOLUTION NO. 4453 CANVASSING RETURNS AND DECLARING RESULTS INTRODUCTION OF STATEMENT OF ELECTION RESULTS= PRESENTATION OF GERTIFIGATE OF ELECTIONs NOMINATIONS I=OR ~AYOR AND MAYOR PRO TFAtPORE= REELECTION OF MAYOR BERTUGELLI~ 51,53 ELECTION OF MAYOR AHEEN PRO TEMPORE= STATEMENT OF ~L~YOR BERTUGELLI s 8=00 p.m. Council Chambers, City Hall. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Bertucellt at 8=10 p.m. The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag was recited. Present= Absent~ Councilmen Frank J. Bertucelli, Patrick E. Ahem, Emilio Cortesi, Andrew Rocca and Guido J. Rozzt None Mayor Bertucelli briefly explained the purpose for the adjourned meeting which was to comply with the Provisions of the Election Code in canvassing the returns of the recently held election and the installation of the newly elected Councilmen. City Attorney Noonan explained the resolution which had been prepared for the canvass of the returns and declaring the results of the General Municipal Election held, after which Councilman Rozzi introduced a resolution entitled= '~ RESOLUTION CANVASSING RETURNS AND DECLARING RESULTS OF THE GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION HELD ~N THE CITY OF SOUTH SAN FEANCISCO ON APRIL 12, 1966." Roll call vote was as follows~ Ayes, Councilmen Frank J. Bertucellt, Emilio Goriest, Patrick E. Ahem, Andrew Rocca and Guido J. Rozzi. Noes, none. Absent, none. The City Clerk at this time introduced a statement of the election results into the Minutes as follows= that the total number of votes cast in said City of South San Francisco was 5,819; that the names of the persons voted for as regularly nominated candidates at the said General Municipal Election were as follows= Patrick E. Ahern Andrew Rocca Louis Belloni Young Hah Choo Roy R. Ghilardi James S. Petty Warren Steinkamp that the offices for which each person was voted for was to the position of City Counctlean; that the number of votes given at each precinct to each person was con- tained in Exhibit "A" which is attached and made a part of Resolution No. 4453; that the number of votes given in the City to each person was as follows= Patrick E. Ahern Andrew Rocca Louis Belloni Young Hah Choo Roy R. Ghilardi James S. Petty Warren Steinkamp 2,769 1,631 1,215 1,114 1,601 1,033 1,604 The City Clerk then declared that campaign statements had been filed by the successful candidates as required by the Elections Code. He at this time delivered to each of the successful candidates, Mr. Andrew Rocca and Mr. Patrick E. Ahem, a Certificate of Election after which he administered the Oath of Office to each. Mayor Bertucelli then declared that nominations were in order for Mayor and Mayor pro tempore. ~ Councilman Ahern stated that while he had received a high vote in his reelection, wished to defer consideration as Mayor at this time and moved that Mayor Bertucelli be nominated to the position of Mayor for another term in order that the projects which he had started could be completed. Councilman Rocca seconded the motion which was unanimously carried. Councilman Rocca at this time moved that Councilman Patrick E. Ahern be appointed to position of Mayor pro tempore. Councilman Rozzi seconded the motion which was unanimously carried. Mayor Bertucellt at this time made the following statement~ Members of the City Council{ Ladies and Gentlemen= It is a pleasure tonight to welcome back from the campaign trail Councilmen Ahern and Rocca. May I extend to the~ congratulations on a successful campaign. STATF. MENT OF MAYOR BERTUGELLI ~ (CONT~NU~) STiTF. I~NT OF COUNCILMAN ROZZI, STATF-~NT OF COUN~ILNAN CORTESI ~ ADJOURNN~NT: RESPECTFULLY SUBMITTED, The victory they won at the polls is well deserved because they have contributed greatly to the progress and growth of the City of So~th San Francisco. Nay I also extend to the representatives of the Council, my colleagues, appreciation for this second term as Nayor and say to them that I will continue to do my best for the people of South San Francisco. We will continue to make good effective government a team effort in South San Francisco. I am confident that this kind of effort on the Council level and the continued cooperation and performance of the City staff, Department Heads and employees, South San Francisco will maintain its lead as a municipality in the Bay Area. Councilman Rozzi at this time congratulated Councilmen Ahem and Rocca on their reelection as members of the City Council, stating that he would continue to support the members of the Council and Nayor in their program. Councilman Cortest then extended his congratulations to the newly reelected Council members, stating that he was pleased to see their return by the voters. There being nothing further, Councilman Rozzi moved, seconded by Councilman Ahem and regularly carried that the meeting be adjourned to the next regular meeting to be held Nay 2, 1966 at 8~00 p.m. Time of adjournment~ 8522 p.m. APPROVED{
