CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE DONATION OF A
SURPLUS FIRE ENGINE TO THE COLLEGE OF SAN MATEO
FIRE TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM.
WHEREAS, the City of South San Francisco ("City") has established procedures for the
declaration of surplus property and equipment; and,
WHEREAS, the City has declared as surplus, former vehicle 513, a 1991 Spartan brand
fire engine; and
WHEREAS, this fire engine is no longer fit for emergency service; and
WHEREAS, this fire engine will, however, be effective in a training role to support
students enrolled in the College of San Mateo ("CSM")Fire Technology Program; and
WHEREAS, the fire engine is designed for use by individuals who possess or are in the
process of possessing the skills necessary to operate and use such equipment as fire fighters; and
WHEREAS, the CSM Fire Technology Program provides training and education to
prospective fire fighters who will serve the public safety needs of Californians; and
WHEREAS, the City is benefited by the training of fire fighters because they may
prospectively serve the City's public safety interests; and
WHEREAS, donation by the City of this fire engine to the CSM Fire Technology
Program will serve a community and public purpose while transferring ownership using an
appropriate process; and
WHEREAS, City staff recommends that the City Council authorize the donation of the
surplus fire engine to the CSM Fire Technology Program.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
South San Francisco that the City of South San Francisco hereby:
1. Authorizes the donation of the surplus 1991 Spartan fire engine on behalf of the City to
the College of San Mateo Fire Technology Program the educational benefit and use of
those individuals being trained as fire fighters, subject to the execution of the necessary
title transfer documents.
2. Authorizes the City Manager or his designee to take any action consistent with the intent
of this resolution.
I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was regularly introduced and adopted by
the City Council of the City of South San Francisco at a regular meeting held on the 26th day of
August, 2015 by the following vote:
AYES: Councilmembers Karyl Matsumoto, Pradeep Gupta, and Liza Normandy
Vice Mayor Mark N. Addiego and Mayor Richard A. Garbarino
