HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 108-2015 RESOLUTION NO. 108-2015 CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA A RESOLUTION AMENDING THE 2015-16 ADOPTED BUDGET IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $360,000 FOR THE PURCHASE OF A NEW AMBULANCE AND ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT. WHEREAS, the South San Francisco Fire Department (SSFFD) provides Advanced Life Support Ambulance Transportation to South San Francisco Fire residents and when needed to the neighboring cities within San Mateo County; and, WHEREAS, SSFFD currently has a two frontline ambulances and a 2000 Freightliner which serves as a reserve ambulance; and, WHEREAS, the current reserve ambulance is 15 years old and has been challenging to maintain due to its age and wear; and, WHEREAS, SSFFD wishes to replace the 2000 Freightliner ambulance; and, WHEREAS, the two 2006 ambulances were cycled out of the fleet and were unavailable to be utilized as reserves causing the 2000 Freightliner to be retained as a reserve; and, WHEREAS, staff intends to replace the 2000 Freightliner ambulance from the fleet and move one of the current 2011 frontline ambulances into reserve resulting in a more consistent ambulance replacement schedule every three years; and WHEREAS, the life cycle of each ambulance would become six years in frontline service followed by 3 years in reserve resulting in the ambulance being replaced on year nine; and WHEREAS, in order to have all ambulances on the planned nine year replacement schedule, staff recommends the following schedule: • 2000 Ambulance; immediately replace with new frontline ambulance (2016 delivery) • 2011 Ambulance #1; move to reserve status, replace in 2019 (one year beyond current seven year plan) • 2011 Ambulance #2; replace between 2020 and 2022 depending upon mechanical condition (two to four years beyond current seven year plan/ zero to two years beyond nine year plan); and WHEREAS, the Equipment Replacement Fund has $2.7 million in available reserves for vehicle replacement; and WHEREAS, staff recommends that the City Council amend the FY 2015-16 adopted budget in an amount not to exceed $360,000. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco that the City of South San Francisco does hereby: 1. Authorizes a $360,000 amendment to the equipment replacement budget for FY 2015-16 to allow for purchase of a new ambulance and associated equipment. I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was regularly introduced and adopted by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco at a regular meeting held on the 26th day of August, 2015 by the following vote: AYES: Councilmembers Karyl Matsumoto, Pradeep Gupta, and Liza Normandy Vice Mayor Mark N.
