CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE $2,000 IN
GRANT FUNDING FROM THE PACIFIC LIBRARY
PARTNERSHIP TO SUPPORT READ FOR THE RECORD®
PROGRAMMING AND AMENDING THE LIBRARY
DEPARTMENT'S 2015-2016 OPERATING BUDGET.
WHEREAS,the Pacific Library Partnership(PLP),the California Library Association(CLA),
the 50 Fund, the legacy fund of the Bay Area Super Bowl Host Committee, and the Bay Area
Campaign for Grade-Level Reading are partnering in support of The Re(a)d Zone,a Bay Area Early
Literacy Initiative. PLP has received funding from the 50 Fund and the Bay Area Super Bowl Host
committee to raise the visibility of early literacy activities; and
WHEREAS,the Library has been awarded $2,000 in grant funding for Children Service's,
Community Learning Center, and Project Read programs to participate in Jumpstart's Read for the
Record®campaign; and
WHEREAS, on October 22, 2015 children and adults worldwide will promote early
learning by participating in the world's largest shared reading experience; and
WHEREAS, the Library will encourage low-to-moderate income families to read aloud to
their children by providing take-home activities,read aloud tips,and free books to preschoolers and
school classrooms; and
WHEREAS,staff recommends the acceptance of grant funding in the amount of$2,000 from
the Pacific Library Partnership to support Read For The Record® programming; and
WHEREAS,the foregoing grant funds will be used to amend this year's operating budget of
the Library Department.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San
Francisco that the City Council hereby accepts $2,000 in grant funding from the Pacific Library
Partnership to support Read For The Record®programming and amending the Library Department's
2015-2016 Operating Budget in order to reflect an increase of$2,000.

I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was regularly introduced and adopted by the
City Council of the City of South San Francisco at a regular meeting held on the 24th day of
September, 2015 by the following vote:
AYES: Councilmembers Karyl Matsumoto, Pradeep Gupta, and Liza Normandy
Vice Mayor Mark N. Addiego and Mayor Richard A. Garbarino
