CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE FILING OF A GRANT
APPLICATION FOR COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK
GRANT FUNDS ALLOCATED THROUGH THE CITY OF DALY
CITY TO SUPPORT PROJECT READ AND AUTHORIZING THE
FINANCE DIRECTOR TO ADJUST THE 2016-2017 REVENUE
BUDGET UPON RECEIPT OF GRANT AWARD.
WHEREAS,the City of South San Francisco("City")Library Department established Project
Read to assist adults and their families in reaching literacy goals; and
WHEREAS,in addition to the services provided within the City,Project Read provides adult
literacy services to approximately 40 individuals in Daly City; and
WHEREAS, these services have been supported in previous years by Community
Development Block Grant("CDBG") funding administered through the City of Daly City; and
WHEREAS, staff recommends authorizing Project Read to apply for CDBG funding in the
amount of$20,000 for fiscal year 2016-2017 to support adult literacy services in Daly City; and
WHEREAS, staff further recommends authorizing the Finance Director to adjust the 2016-
2017 revenue budget upon receipt of a grant award letter of any amount of CDBG funding awarded
by the City of Daly City as a result of this grant application.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San
Francisco that the City Council hereby authorizes the filing of a grant application for Community
Development Block Grant funds allocated through the City of Daly City for fiscal year 2016-2017.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco that it
hereby authorized the Finance Director to adjust the 2016-2017 operating budget upon receipt of
notification that Daly City CDBG grant funds have been awarded to Project Read.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco that
the City Council hereby authorizes the City Manager to execute any necessary documents for the
grant application and or receipt of grant funds,and designates the City Manager of the City of South
San Francisco as the signatory for CDBG funding.
I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was regularly introduced and adopted by the
City Council of the City of South San Francisco at a regular meeting held on the 9th day of
December, 2015 by the following vote:
AYES: Councilmembers Karyl Matsumoto, Richard A. Garbarino, and Liza Normandy
Vice Mayor Pradeep Gupta and Mayor Mark N. Addiego
