CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
A RESOLUTION AWARDING A CONSTRUCTION
CONTRACT TO PLEASANTON ENGINEERING
CONTRACTORS, INC. OF PLEASANTON, CALIFORNIA FOR
THE POLICE BUILDING ENTRANCE RAMP PROJECT IN AN
AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $88,000.
WHEREAS, in May 2014, the City of South San Francisco ("City") adopted an
Americans with Disability Act (ADA) Self-Assessment and Transition Plan identifying barriers
to accessibility caused by city policies, programs, and facilities and defining barrier removal
solutions to facilitate the opportunity for access to all individuals; and accessibility; and
WHEREAS, installation of an ADA-accessible ramp to provide direct wheelchair access
into the public entrance of the Police Department located at 33 Arroyo Drive is a necessary
project identified in the City ADA Transition Plan; and
WHEREAS, the City contracted with Group 4 Architecture, Research + Planning for a
design of an ADA-compliant ramp for the Police Department entrance; and
WHEREAS,) City staff issued a Notice Inviting Bids for the Police Building Entrance
Ramp ("Project") on January 5, 2016 and on February 2, 2016, received three (3) sealed bids in
response; and
WHEREAS, Pleasanton Engineering Contractors, Inc. of Pleasanton, California
submitted the lowest responsive and responsible base bid in the amount of$88,000; and
WHEREAS, Pleasanton Engineering Contractors, Inc., submitted an add alternate bid in
the amount of$20,000; and
WHEREAS, staff recommends awarding the construction contract consisting of only the
base bid to Pleasanton Engineering Contractors, Inc. in an amount not to exceed $88,000; and
WHEREAS, total project costs including design, construction, construction contingency,
project management, and construction inspection are estimated to be $146,975; and
WHEREAS, the Project is included in the City of South San Francisco's 2015-2016
Capital Improvement Program as project pfl 404.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of South San
Francisco that the City Council hereby awards a construction contract for the Project to
Pleasanton Engineering Contractors, Inc. for an amount not to exceed $88,000.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of South San Francisco
authorizes the Finance Department to establish the Project Budget consistent with the
information contained in the staff report.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Manager is hereby authorized to execute the
documents on behalf of the City upon timely submission by Pleasanton Engineering Contractors,
Inc. of the signed contract and all other documents, subject to approval as to form by the City
Attorney.
