Box 711 (City Hall, 400 Grand Avenue) _ -c,0 South San Francisco, CA cqL lik> Resolution: RES 115-2016 File Number: 16-630 Enactment Number: RES 115-2016 RESOLUTION APPROVING THE ACCEPTANCE OF $286,619.39 IN GRANT FUNDING FROM THE SILICON VALLEY COMMUNITY FOUNDATION, SOCIAL INNOVATION FUND AND COUNTY OF SAN MATEO MEASURE A SALES TAX FUNDS FOR THE SECOND YEAR OF THE BIG LIFT LITTLE STEPS PRESCHOOL AT THE COMMUNITY LEARNING CENTER AND AMENDING THE PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT OPERATING BUDGET FOR FISCAL YEAR 2016/17. WHEREAS, the Big Lift initiative, a collaborative led by the Silicon Valley Community Foundation, the San Mateo County Office of Education and the County of San Mateo, aims to close the achievement gap and improve third-grade reading proficiency in San Mateo County by supporting preschools and reading readiness activities; and WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation was awarded $20,500 for Fiscal Year 2014/15, $252,175 for Fiscal Year 2015/16, and $286,619.39 for Fiscal Year 2016/17 for a total of$559,294.39 in grant funds to create additional preschool space at the Little Steps Preschool at the Community Learning Center; and WHEREAS, these grant funds will be utilized to amend the Department 's 2016/17 operating budget to fund the Little Steps Preschool and support reading readiness, parent engagement, improved attendance, and enhanced preschool teacher trainings; and WHEREAS, acceptance of these funds does not commit the City to ongoing funding after the close of the grant cycle; and WHEREAS, receipt of these grant funds will enable the Parks and Recreation Department to implement preschool programs,which would not otherwise be funded, and to work collaboratively with our Big Lift partners to increase outreach and enhance the quality of City and community preschools. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco that the City Council hereby authorizes the acceptance of$286,619.39 in grant funding from Silicon Valley Community Foundation, the Social Innovation Fund, and County of San Mateo Measure A Sales Tax revenue to support preschool and reading readiness activities. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council amends the Parks and Recreation Department 2016/17 operating budget by$286,619.39. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council hereby authorizes the City to execute the Page 1 Fite Number: 16-630 Enactment Number: RES 115-2016 documents necessary to accept the grant funding and take any other actions necessary to carry out the intent of this resolution on behalf of the City Council, subject to approval as to form by the City Attorney. At a meeting of the City Council on 9/28/2016, a motion was made by Karyl Matsumoto, seconded by Pradeep Gupta, that this Resolution be approved.The motion passed.
