WHEREAS, the City of South San Francisco ("City") Library Department established Project Read to assist adults and their families in reaching literacy goals; and WHEREAS, in July 2017, the Silicon Valley Community Foundation awarded a grant to the City in the amount of$45,000 to fund Project Read's Financial Well-being programming; and WHEREAS, funds will be used to promote financial education and asset-building strategies in adult literacy students and low-income immigrant families; and WHEREAS, staff recommends the acceptance of grant funding in the amount of$45,000 from the Silicon Valley Community Foundation to support services by Project Read; and WHEREAS, the foregoing grant funds will be used to amend the FY 2017-18 operating budget of the Library Department. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco that the City Council hereby accepts$45,000 in grant funding from the Silicon Valley Community Foundation and amends the Library Department's Fiscal Year 2017-18 operating budget in order to reflect an increase of $45,000. At a meeting of the City Council on 7/26/2017, a motion was made by Liza Normandy, seconded by Karyl Matsumoto, that this Resolution be approved.The motion passed.
