RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE DONATION OF ELEVEN
SURPLUS COMPUTERS TO THE SAFE HARBOR SHELTER.
WHEREAS,the Safe Harbor Shelter provides emergency and transitional beds for homeless adults in San
Mateo County; and
WHEREAS, over 400 individuals receive shelter, food, case management, mental health counseling, and
substance abuse treatment through Safe Harbor each year; and
WHEREAS,Safe Harbor offers training on life skills including cooking, financial planning,job searching,
and other skills pertinent to helping clients achieve self-sufficiency; and
WHEREAS,the City is replacing computers over six years old and would normally recycle the computers
as e-waste; and
WHEREAS, these computers, valued at $2,800, can be used in Safe Harbor's newly established learning
center to teach clients basic computer skills; and
WHEREAS, the donation of these computers will allow Safe Harbor Shelter's clients to refine skills that
can help them obtain an income and ultimately move into permanent housing.
NOW,THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco that the
City Council hereby donates eleven surplus computers to the Safe Harbor Shelter in South San Francisco.
At a meeting of the City Council on 8/9/2017,a motion was made by Richard Garbarino,seconded by Liza
Normandy, that this Resolution be approved.The motion passed.
