CALL TO ORDER: 6:44 p.m. II. ROLL CALL: Present: Commissioners Boldenweck, Moncé, Looper, Woo, and Madrid- Nickle Absent: Commissioner Hobson-Coard, Commissioner Ventura and Commissioner Gekker Staff Present: Greg Mediati, Parks Manager Ercie Santos, Cultural Arts Specialist Susan Filereto, Administrative Assistant III. AGENDA REVIEW: No changes. IV. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Minutes from February 15, 2018, were not approved because there was not a quorum. They will be approved at the March meeting. Meeting was held, but with no action taken. Please note that Commissioner Madrid-Nickle arrived at 6:50 p.m. after roll call. V. CITIZEN PARTICIPATION: N/A VI. OLD BUSINESS: 1. Selection of October 12 & 13 Art Gallery Program Vice-Chair Boldenweck stated this item will be discussed at the April meeting. VII. SUB-COMMITTEE REPORTS: 1. Sculpture Vice-Chair Boldenweck stated there was nothing to report at this time. 2. Utility Box Mural Program Vice-Chair Boldenweck stated that there will be discussion at an upcoming meeting. Cultural Arts Commission Minutes of March 15, 2018 Page 2 3. Youth Art Scholarship Specialist Santos reported that all schools have been notified. She also stated that the subcommittee recommendations for the finalists would occur at the April meeting. 4. Youth Art Show (March 23 & 24) Specialist Santos stated flyers have been distributed to all the schools. She also distributed the docent list. She reported that there will be a performance on Friday evening and on Saturday self-directed art activities are scheduled through-out the day. 5. General Art Show (May 11 & May 12) Specialist Santos reported applications are on-line and flyers have been distributed. 6. Karaoke Night (May 11) Vice-Chair Boldenweck stated the item will be discussed at the April meeting. VIII. NEW BUSINESS: N/A IX. ITEMS FROM COMMISSION: Commissioner Woo reported she attended the Soroptimist Dinner. She stated they did a very nice job with their auction items. They used numbers instead of names and had pre - set amounts already marked on the bid sheets. Commissioner Looper asked if there was any more information on the new Civic Building. Manager Mediati reported that at the upcoming Parks and Recreation Commission meeting being held this Tuesday, March 20th at 7:00 p.m. they would be holding the first Public Forum on the new Civic Building. He encouraged the Commission to attend. He stated there are seven to eight meetings that would be taking place in the future. He stated he would provide the Commission with those dates and more details. X. ITEMS FROM STAFF: 1. Alta Loma & Tile Project Dedication – Saturday, April 7 Specialist Santos stated the dedication of the Children’s Art Tile Project and Recognition of Jacquelyn Pettinari will be taking place that day. She reported the program will begin at 11:00 a.m. Manager Mediati stated there will be an Arbor Day Tree Planting at 10:30 a.m. happening that day as well. Specialist Santos reported that the architects for the new Civic Building, the Smith Group, will be doing a presentation at the next Cultural Arts Meeting on April 19.
