RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF A
DONATION OF APPROXIMATELY $7,000 WORTH OF
MATERIALS FROM GENENTECH, INC. TO SUPPORT DIGITAL
LITERACY SERVICES IN THE LIBRARY.
WHEREAS, the South San Francisco Library supports digital literacy for all elements of the community;
and
WHEREAS, providing the ability for community members to use different devices and operating
systems is essential for enhancing digital literacy; and
WHEREAS, Genentech Inc. has donated 45 Samsung Galaxy Tab4 tablets worth approximately $7,000
to the library; and
WHEREAS, these tablets will be used at the Community Learning Center and Project Read to enhance
digital literacy programs; and
WHEREAS, tablets will also be available for patrons at Main Library and the Grand Avenue branch to
borrow for home use; and
WHEREAS, receipt of these materials does not commit the City to ongoing funding; and
WHEREAS, the foregoing donation does not have a fiscal impact on the Operating Budget.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of South San Francisco does
hereby accept a donation of approximately $7,000 worth of Samsung Galaxy Tab4 tablets from
Genentech, Inc. to support digital literacy services in the Library and authorize the Library Director to
execute a document with Genentech, Inc. effectuating the donation, subject to approval by the City
Attorney.
At a meeting of the City Council on 11/28/2018, a motion was made by Mark Addiego, seconded by Pradeep
Gupta, that this Resolution be approved. The motion passed.
