RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE FILING OF A GRANT
CONTRACT RENEWAL FOR COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
BLOCK GRANT FUNDS ALLOCATED THROUGH THE CITY OF
DALY CITY TO SUPPORT PROJECT READ AND AUTHORIZING
THE FINANCE DIRECTOR TO ADJUST THE FISCAL YEAR 2019 -
2020 REVENUE BUDGET PER BUDGET AMENDMENT 19.040
UPON RECEIPT OF GRANT AWARD.
WHEREAS, the City of South San Francisco ("City") Library Department established Project
Read to assist adults and their families in reaching literacy goals; and
WHEREAS, in addition to the services provided within the City, Project Read provides adult
literacy services to approximately 40 individuals in Daly City; and
WHEREAS, these services have been supported in previous years by Community
Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding administered through the City of Daly City; and
WHEREAS, staff recommends authorizing Project Read to apply for CDBG funding in the
amount of $20,000 for Fiscal Year 2019-2020 to support adult literacy services in Daly City;
and
WHEREAS, staff further recommends authorizing the Director of Finance to adjust the 2019-20
revenue budget through Budget Amendment 19.040 upon receipt of a grant award letter of any
amount of CDBG funding awarded by the City of Daly City as a result of this grant application.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco
that the City Council hereby authorizes the filing of a grant application for Community
Development Block Grant funds allocated through the City of Daly City for Fiscal Year
2019-2020.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco that it
hereby authorizes the Director of Finance to adjust the Fiscal Year 2019-2020 operating budget
upon receipt of notification that Daly City CDBG grant funds have been awarded to Project
Read.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco that the
City Council hereby authorizes the City Manager to execute any necessary documents for the
grant application and/or receipt of grant funds, and designates the City Manager of the City of

South San Francisco as the signatory for CDBG funding.

At a meeting of the City Council on 1/23/2019, a motion was made by Richard Garbarino, seconded by
Buenaflor Nicolas, that this Resolution be approved. The motion passed.
