Variance Application
8:06-8:32
Chair.man Breed opened the Public Hearing on the request of
Associated Construc'tion in behalf of J .H. Coffman & Sons
for Variance on Parking. Letter to Mr. Goss from Associated
Construction was read. Minutes of the Planning Commission
meeting of March 11, 1957 read regarding this application.
Planning. Consul tant Barber recommended (a) The owner agree
to deed restriction covering the fact that he will maintain
parking on the PG&E easement so long alf PG&E will allow it.
Further that he will agree in writing to the sat1staction
of the City Attorney, to assume sole liability for the use
af' the, :p'G&E property for parking. (b) Any use of the front
area (between Sylvester Road and building) for parking be
subject to approval by the Planning Commission, of the
parking layout, i.e. bumper guard, space arl~ngement, planting
etc.
Commissioner Delaney suggested acondit1on that a three foot
walkway along the west boundry of the Parking lot and protected
by a bumper be one of the conditions of acceptance. Commiss....
ioner Delaney also suggested that we include the drawing
numbers of F-314-0 and 315-C andarchi tee tura1 sketch number
56-22 2-5...57 1n the resolution, as the drawing under
consideration. Commissioner Delaney requested Mr. Acheson
at Associated Construction to close off the front 20 foot
opening as shown on drawing F-314-C until parking plan 1s
submitted. ~Jr. Acheson pointed out they had planned to
pave walkway. There followed discussion on whether to pave
the parking lot or not. Coimnissioner Delaney brought up
the questian of how the cars would turnaround in the lot
and Mr. Acheson pointed out they had provid,ad a turn around
at the end of the parking area and felt since they had
plenty of :boom this would not be a problem.
COnmUssioner Robertson suggested the conditions include
that 'all curbs be a.ccording to the Engineerts recommendation.
Chairman Breed brought up the planting of the front of the
bU1iding. Mr. Acheson pointed out that as contractors they
could not agree that the o~v.ners vVQuld plant the front of the
building. It was decided that when the area in the front was
before the Connni.ssion for parking, the matter of planting
could be disoussed at that time. Mr. Acheson presented a
letter to hdimii J .H.Coftlnan regarding the number of
employees and the expected parking they would require.
Chairman Breed ordered the letter filed. Commissioner
Robertson maved, seconded by Commissioner Martinez, that the
hearing be closed. Motion passed by all Commissioners present.
