SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO PLANNING COMMISSION
Regular Meeting of October 28, 1993
CALL TO ORDER:
7:30 P.M.

AGENDA ITEMS - PUBLIC HEARINGS
East of 101 Area Plan
The Planning Comlnission will take testimony on the Design Element which will establish policies
affecting the aesthetic appearance of the area east of US Highway 101 for future growth and
development, public facilities, and roadways.
Chairman Warren opened the public hearing and asked for the staff report.
Senior Planner Carlson presented the staff report.
Peter Yee, Genentech, Inc. stated that Genentech supports the Design Element and is a step in
the right direction. He then commented on the following items: V-81, V-97, V-99, DE 20, DE-
42, DE 46, DE 48, V-I07, V-108 and bike routes.
Mr. Naphtali Knox, 1010 Doyle St., Menlo Park, representing the Haskins site, stated his
comments were attached to the staff report.
Louis Poletti, 333 EI Camino Real, conlmented on the billboard and sign policies, DE-32 and V-
104. He stated he would like the word "shall" in the policies changed to "should" and a further
explanation after policy DE-33.

Ron Rainier, 40 So. Market, San Jose, representing the Koll site, sublnitted a letter with
comments on the Design Element and stated that the density decisions that the Design Element
has built into it should be exalnined.
Scott Graeser, Rouse & Associates, Union City, representing the Gateway Business Park, stated
he has concerns with DE-IS.
At this point, Chairman Warren moved on to the next item.
Itel1lS fro 111 Staff - Chief Planner Solomon discussed the public hearing for the Atkinson
demolition permit and negative declaration. He advised that the document would be distributed
to the Commission for their infonnation.
David Early, Brady and Associates, advised Chairman Warren that the final Design Element
would probably be ready for the November 3, 1993 City Council meeting.
Chief Planner Solomon advised Mr. Knox that the decision on the EIR would probably be made
in JanualY, 1994.

Motion-Zellmer/Seconded-DeZordo: To adjourn the meeting to November 4, 1993.
Chairman Warren adjourned the meeting at 9:51 P.M.
