AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO
TO MAKE IT UNLAWFUL TO MISTREAT, INJURE, DISABLE
OR KILL ANY DOG USED BY THE POLICE DEPARTMENT OR
TO MOLEST ANY SUCH DOG WHILE BEING USED .IN THE
PERFORMANCE OF THE FUNCTIONS OR DUTIES OF SUCH
DEPARTMENT OR OF ANY OFFICER OR MEMBER THEREOF.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO
DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION I. SHORT TITLE
This ordinance shall be known and may be cited as the
"South San Francisco Canine/Police Dog Ordinance".
SECTION II. DEFINITIONS
As used in this Ordinance, the term "police dog" shall
mean any dog specially trained for assistance to law enforce-
ment officers, and which dog is under the control of a law
enforcement officer in the performance of his duties.
SECTION III. MISTREATING, INJURING, DISABLING, KILLING
OR MOLESTING POLICE DOGS
It shall be unlawful for any person to wilfully or
maliciously torture, tease, torment, beat, kick, strike,
mutilate, injure, disable, or kill any dog used by the Police
Department of the City of South San Francisco in the perform-
ance of the functions or duties of such Department or to
unwarrantably interfere with or meddle with any such dog while
being used by said Department or any officer or member thereof
in the performance of any of the functions or duties of said
Department or of such officer or member.
SECTION IV. PENALTY
Any person or persons who violate this ordinance shall
be guilty of a misdemeanor, and, upon conviction thereof,
shall be punished by a fine of not exceeding Five Hundred
Dollars ($500.00), or by imprisonment in the County Jail for
a term not exceeding six (6) months, or by both such fine and
imprisonment.
SECTION V.' PUBLICATION AND EFFECTIVE DATE
The City Clerk of the City of South San Francisco is
hereby directed to cause this ordinance to be published
once, as required by law, and it shall take effect thirty
(30) days following its adoption.

San Francisco at a regular meeting of the City Council of
the City of South San Francisco this 6th day of
