Box 711 (City Hall, 400 Grand Avenue) South San Francisco, CA City Council ' Resolution: RES 49-2022 File Number: 22-250 Enactment Number: RES 49-2022 RESOLUTION APPROVING THE PROPOSED EXTENDED LEARNING SUMMER PROGRAM OFFERED BY THE CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO FOR STUDENTS ENROLLED IN THE SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT'S BIG LIFT SUMMER SCHOOL PROGRAM AT SPRUCE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, AND AMENDING THE PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT'S FISCAL YEAR 2021-22 AND 2022-23 OPERATING BUDGETS PURSUANT TO BUDGET AMENDMENT #22-058. WHEREAS, the City partnered with the South San Francisco Unified School District (District) in 2019 to offer an extended day program for its STEAM Summer School Program at Sunshine Gardens Elementary School for third through eighth grade students, serving 80 children; and WHEREAS, the direct costs associated with operating the 2019 program were reimbursed by the District, while in-kind operational costs and coordination services were provided by the City and the program was offered at no cost to families; and WHEREAS, City staff received a request from District staff in a meeting on February 4, 2022 for the City's Parks and Recreation Department to partner with the District to create an extended day or after school program to complement the District's Big Lift Summer School (BLISS) programs, which operate until 3:30 p.m.; and WHEREAS, the Spruce Elementary School site was identified as the most desirable location to host the afterschool component, based on classroom availability, community need, and limited staffing availability; and WHEREAS, the City has proposed operating four classrooms, serving 80 students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade from June 14, 2022 - July 20, 2022; and WHEREAS, the District will reimburse the City for the direct costs of operating the extended day program, and the program will be offered at no cost to families; and WHEREAS, this partnership between the City and District will offer a full day program to children with working parents who may not otherwise enroll in summer school if after school care was not provided. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of South San Francisco hereby approves the proposed extended learning summer program offered by the City of South City of South San Francisco Page 1 File Number: 22-250 Enactment Number: RES 49-2022 San Francisco for students enrolled in the South San Francisco Unified School District's Big Lift Summer School program at Spruce Elementary School, and amends the Parks and Recreation Department's Fiscal Year 2021-22 and 2022-23 Operating Budgets pursuant to budget amendment #22-058. At a meeting of the City Council on 4/13/2022, a motion was made by Vice Mayor Nicolas, seconded by Councilmember Coleman, that this Resolution be approved. The motion passed.
