HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrd 771-1978ORDINANCE NO. 771-78 AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING A NUMBERING SYSTEM FOR ALL HOUSES OR OTHER STRUCTURES IN THE CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO. THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. NUMBERING SYSTEM. Every house or other structure fronting upon any public street, avenue, lane, place, drive or highway in the City of South San Francisco shall bear a number in accordance with the street numbering maps of the City, which are maintained in the. Office of the Chief Building Inspector. All the streets, avenues, lanes, places, drives, and highways shall have the numbers on the right hand side start- ing from the point of beginning; shall be even numbers, and the numbers on the left hand side shall be odd numbers. If the number of building entrances on a parcel exceeds the numbers allocated for that parcel, alphabetical designations may be appended to the number. SECTION 2. MATERIAL, SIZE AND ILLUMINATION. In all cases numbers shall be of wood, metal or glass construction and not less than three inches in height. All numbers shall be placed on or near the house or structure in such a manner that such numbers can be easily read from the street, avenue, lane, place, drive or highway upon which it fronts. All numbers placed on or near new residential structures shall be internally or externally illuminated. SECTION 3. STREET NUMBER REQUIRED. It shall be unlawful for any owner or occupant of any house or structure front- ing upon a public street, avenue, lane, place, drive or highway in the City of South San Francisco to fail or neglect to number such house or structure in the manner required by this Ordinance. SECTION 4. PENALTIES. Any person violating a provision of this Ordinance or failing to comply with a mandatory requirement of this Ordinance shall be guilty of an infraction and CENTRA~ RECORDS upon conviction such p:,'son shall be punishable by a fi,.: of not less than Fifty Dollars ($50.00) and not exceeding Five Hundred Dollars ($500.00). SECTION 5. PUBLICATION AND EFFECTIVE DATE. This Ordinance shall be published once in the Enterprise-Journal, a newspaper of general circulation in the City of South San Francisco, as required by law, and shall become effective thirty (30) days from and after its adoption.
