Box 711 (City Hall, 400 Grand Avenue) South San Francisco, CA File Number: 22-567 Enactment Number: RES 118-2022 RESOLUTION ACCEPTING A CERTIFICATE OF SUFFICIENCY OF SIGNATURES ON A PETITION FOR AN INITIATIVE ORDINANCE OF AN ANNUAL PARCEL TAX ON SOME COMMERCIAL OFFICE PROPERTIES FOR EARLY CARE AND EDUCATION AND CHILDCARE AND DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS WHEREAS, on December 29, 2021, the City Clerk received a letter conveying to the City a Notice of Intent to Circulate a Petition per Elections Code Section 9202, and Text of Initiative entitled, South San Francisco Early Care for All Parcel Tax Act; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Elections Code Section 9203(a), the letter served as formal written request for preparation of a ballot title and summary of the measure by the City Attorney; and WHEREAS, as requested by the proponents and as required by Elections Code Section 9203, a Ballot Title and Summary was prepared by the City Attorney and returned to the proponents by the City Clerk on January 5, 2022, along with notification that the proponents were then entitled, per Elections Code Section 9205, to publish the Notice of Intention, Ballot Title, and Summary; and WHEREAS, the Notice of Intent to Circulate Petition and text of the measure was published in the Examiner; and WHEREAS, Elections Code 9215 states that in order to qualify for the ballot, the petition must be signed by ten percent (10%) of the registered voters in South San Francisco; and WHEREAS, according to the Report of Registration filed with the Secretary of State, Woodside has 35,185 registered voters, and thus 3,519 verified signatures were required for this Petition; and WHEREAS, on June 3, 2022, the Petition containing 5,751 unverified signatures was filed with the City Clerk’s Office as required by Elections Code 9208, prior to the established deadline; and WHEREAS, after completing the prima facie review of signatures, the City Clerk provided the Petition to the San Mateo Assessor/County Clerk-Recorder and Elections Office for examination and verification of the signatures; and WHEREAS, by letter dated June 6, 2022; received by the City on June 7, 2022, San Mateo Assessor/County Clerk-Recorder and Elections Office verified that the Petition contains 3,635 valid signatures.
