RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE
OF TWO HALF-TIME AMERICORPS MEMBERS
FROM THE CALIFORNIA STATE LIBRARY TO
SUPPORT CALIFORNIA LIBRARY LITERACY
SERVICES OFFERED THROUGH THE LIBRARY'S
PROJECT READ AND GENE MULLIN COMMUNITY
LEARNING CENTER PROGRAMS.
WHEREAS, the City of South San Francisco ("City") Library Department established the
Gene Mullin Community Learning Center (CLC) and Project Read to assist adults and their families in
reaching their educational goals; and
WHEREAS, the California State Library will provide two half-time AmeriCorp members to
support California Library Literacy Services (CLLS) offered through the Library's Project Read and
CLC programs; and
WHEREAS, the two positions include support for tutoring, recruitment of learners and
volunteers, work on family literacy programs, assisting with other CLLS programs and operations,
promoting learner leadership, and as able, hiring adult learners as staff; and
WHEREAS, Library staff and AmeriCorps positions will support Project Read and the CLC
programs including collaborating with the City of South San Francisco Promotores to better connect
community to available resources; and
WHEREAS, approval of these resources will support the City's Strategic Plan under Priority
#2, Quality of Life, by supporting learning opportunities and racial and social equity; and
WHEREAS, approval of these resources will enable the Library to continue to strengthen
literacy services in South San Francisco and partner communities.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of South San Francisco does
hereby approve the two half-time AmeriCorps members to support the Library's CLLS Project Read and
Gene Mullin Community Learning Center programs.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council hereby authorizes the City Manager to execute the
documents necessary to accept the grant funding and take any other actions necessary to carry out the
intent of this resolution on behalf of the City Council, subject to approval as to form by the City
Attorney.

At a meeting of the City Council on 9/14/2022, a motion was made by Mayor Nagales, seconded
by Vice Mayor Nicolas, that this Resolution be approved. The motion passed.
