Box 711 (City Hall, 400 Grand Avenue) South San Francisco, CA City Council Resolution: RES 168-2022 File Number: 22-847 Enactment Number: RES 168-2022 RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF $96,309 FROM THE CALIFORNIA STATE LIBRARY TO SUPPORT THE GENE MULLIN COMMUNITY LEARNING CENTER'S ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE PROGRAM AND APPROVING BUDGET AMENDMENT 23.025. WHEREAS, the City of South San Francisco ("City") Library Department established the Gene Mullin Community Learning Center (CLC) to assist adults and their families in reaching their educational goals; and WHEREAS, the California State Library has awarded the City $96,309 in grant funding to support the Gene Mullin Community Learning Center's English as a Second Language Program; and WHEREAS, funding from the California State Library will be used to provide 50 participants in CLC's project with one-on-one/small group tutoring and English vocabulary and pronunciation lab; and WHEREAS, CLC will continue to collaborate with partners including Skyline College and South San Francisco Adult Education to support non-native English speakers by providing onsite Basic English classes; and WHEREAS, staff recommends the acceptance of the grant funding in the amount of $96,309 from the California State Library to support the Gene Mullin Community Learning Center's English as a Second Language Program; and WHEREAS, the grant funds will be used to amend Fiscal Year (FY) 2022-2023 Operating Budget of the Library Department via Budget Amendment 23.025. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of South San Francisco does hereby accept $96,309 in grant funding from the California State Library and approve Budget Amendment 23.025 to amend the Library Department's FY 2022-2023 Operating Budget in order to reflect an increase of $96,309. RES 168-2022 At a meeting of the City Council on 10/12/2022, a motion was made by Vice Mayor Nicolas, seconded by Councilmember Flores, that this Resolution be approved. The motion passed.
