RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE
OF $66,355 FROM THE CALIFORNIA STATE
LIBRARY TO SUPPORT PROJECT READ THROUGH
THE ADULT LITERACY SERVICES (ALS) PROGRAM
AND APPROVING BUDGET AMENDMENT 23.024
TO AMEND THE LIBRARY DEPARTMENT'S FISCAL
YEAR 2022 - 2023 OPERATING BUDGET.
WHEREAS, the City of South San Francisco ("City") Library Department established Project
Read to assist adults and their families in reaching literacy goals; and
WHEREAS, Project Read Adult Literacy Services program provides literary services to low
income, low literate adults in North San Mateo County; and
WHEREAS, the California State Library has granted Project Read $66,355 to support the
continuation of the Adult Literacy Services program; and
WHEREAS, Project Read's Adult Literacy Services program includes one-on-one and small
group tutoring sessions for English speaking adults with low -literacy skills; and
WHEREAS, staff recommends the acceptance of the grant funding in the amount of $66,355
from the California State Library to support Project Read through the Adult Literacy Services program;
and
WHEREAS, the grant funds will be used to amend the Fiscal Year (FY) 2022-2023 Operating
Budget of the Library Department via Budget Amendment 23.024.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of South San Francisco does
hereby accept $66,355 in grant funding from the California State Library and approves Budget
Amendment 23.024 to amend the Library Department's FY2022-2023 Operating Budget in order to
reflect an increase of $66,355.

At a meeting of the City Council on 10/12/2022, a motion was made by Vice Mayor Nicolas,
seconded by Councilmember Flores, that this Resolution be approved. The motion passed.
