RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE
OF A GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF $50,000 FROM
THE SAN MATEO COUNTY STRONG OUT OF
SCHOOL GRANT PROGRAM FOR THE PARKS AND
RECREATION DEPARTMENT'S LOS CERRITOS
RECREATION, ENRICHMENT, AND LEARNING
(REAL) PROGRAM, AND AMENDING THE PARKS
AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT'S FISCAL YEAR
2022-23 OPERATING BUDGET PURSUANT TO
BUDGET AMENDMENT #23.029.
WHEREAS, the Parks and Recreation Department (Department) received a grant in the
amount of $50,000 from the San Mateo County Strong Out of School Grant Program for the Parks and
Recreation Department's Los Cerritos Recreation, Enrichment, and Learning (REAL) Program; and
WHEREAS, the San Mateo County Strong Out of School Grant will allow the Department to
hire three additional part-time hourly staff members for the Los Cerritos REAL Program, reducing
teacher to student ratios from 1:20 to 1:10; and
WHEREAS, grant funds will also be used for recruitment incentives that will be offered to
current staff members who refer applicants that are hired and work through the school year, as well as
provide scholarships for Winter and Spring Camp for children who attend the Los Cerritos REAL
Program; and
WHEREAS, the Parks and Recreation Department appreciates contributions from community
partners who help continue and enhance the Department's mission to provide opportunities for physical,
cultural and social well-being, protect and enhance the physical environment, and ensure the effective
and efficient use of public facilities and open space.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of South San Francisco
hereby accepts the grant in the amount of $50,000 from the San Mateo County Strong Out of School
Grant Program for the Parks and Recreation Department's Los Cerritos Recreation, Enrichment, and
Learning (REAL) Program.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council does hereby approve Budget Amendment #23.029
to amend the Parks and Recreation Department's Fiscal Year 2022-23 Operating Budget,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Manager is hereby authorized to execute the grant
agreement and any other necessary documents on behalf of the City to carry out the intent of this
resolution, subject to approval as to form by the City Attorney.

At a meeting of the City Council on 10/26/2022, a motion was made by Vice Mayor Nicolas,
seconded by Councilmember Flores, that this Resolution be approved. The motion passed.
