AGENDA REVIEW
Secretary Selander welcome and thanked all Committee members for attending their first
teleconference BPAC meeting.
Chair Gore welcomed new member Tommy Chheng to BPAC.
Secretary Selander noted there would be a brief presentation from Engineering during Staff
Comments.
ADMINISTRATIVE BUSINESS
1. Gateway of the Pacific Campus 5 - Vision
Senior Planner Billy Gross introduced the project and the applicant to the Committee. The
developer, BioMed Realty was represented by Ethan Marsh, as well as by their design and
architecture team. The applicant described the project – a rails to trails project on an abandoned
rail spur running through the Gateway of the Pacific project. Senior Planner Gross requested
feedback from the Committee.
Committee member comments on the proposed project:
1. Great presentation but not clear at the end who will be the owner of this land? (The
property will be owned by BioMed Realty, and there will be a public access easement.)
2. How much pedestrian traffic is expected; and also on GOP-5 at the corner traffic is very
slow, what are the plans for this corner?
3. Will this route/path have some time limits per day for the use?
4. Will this be considered as part of the long term BPAC Planning?
5. Add signage at external entrance of the trail - to let public know of this trail – signage to
be at either end of the trail.
6. Incorporate workout stations
7. Add water fountains – along benches on trail
8. Area is windy – any measures?
9. The elbow-turns must be slower for the bicyclists

1. Will this box be sturdy enough to support the weight of bikes? (There is a metal crossbar
underneath that makes be very strong and supportive of the weight.)
2. Good measure to make this box more durable and strong for the roads; also the new
model will prevent tires getting trap in this drain box.
3. Will there be some signage to alert bicyclist about this box? – like for example “rough
terrain ahead”; or to paint it in different color?
Secretary Selander introduced Senior Planner Christopher Espiritu, who will take over the BPAC
Secretary role. Senior Planner Espiritu comes from the City of San Francisco and has great
experience in transportation planning.
Chief Planner Sailesh Mehra explained new changes to several City boards and commissions. The
Planning Division will not manage BPAC, in addition to the Traffic and Safety Commission and the
Parking Place Commission.
Meeting adjourned at 7:08 PM.
