ADMINISTRATIVE BUSINESS 1)Vision Zero SSF Chris Espiritu, Secretary to the committee, shared a PowerPoint presentation listing next steps to achieve Vision Zero in South San Francisco. Chris detailed the program’s origin in Sweden and shared a map of Vision Zero communities in the United States, as well as the Vision Zero status for policies/plans of Bay Area communities. A data driven approach will be used to develop an action plan, which will include data from the South San Francisco Office of Traffic Safety. Inter- departmental staff collaboration and stakeholder outreach will be instrumental in bringing Vision Zero to life in South San Francisco. City Council will be updated regularly on the program’s progress. COMMITTEE COMMENTS SSF Office of Traffic Safety stats discussed Query re: how Vision Zero plan will intersect with the Bike and Ped plan that is still underway; Chris explained that Vision Zero is being recommended to be developed and included as one of the recommendations to increase safety in the plan. Daylighting of red curbs in Daly City discussed as a reference to modeling other communities who have protected intersections in this way; Chris informed committee that Daly City has not done meaningful areas of daylighting. Narrow streets and lack of code enforcement discussed re: negative impact on pedestrian safety Query re: whether discouraging of SUV ownership is included in Vision Zero plan; Senior Planner Adena Friedman referenced current efforts to incentivize compact parking places to new developments in SSF ACTION: Chris to send out Vision Zero slide deck to committee 2)Emails from the public Email received from C/CAG inviting input for their county Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan. Link to email provided in chat. COMMITTEE COMMENTS Committee member requested timeline for full implementation of Vision Zero; Chris informed committee that program is in its initial phase, which requires identifying staff to be involved and analyzing problem areas. Stakeholder outreach will be important in developing this action plan. Query re: identifying plan work as in-house or contracted – to be determined ACTION: None STAFF COMMENTS Committee Secretary notified committee of Silicon Valley Bike Coalition’s bike visibility forum, held on the third Wednesday of every month from 5-7 pm.
