AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTIONS 2.72.020 AND 2.72.090 OF THE SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO MUNICIPAL CODE AND SECTIONS 2 AND 9 OF ORDINANCE NO. 622 ENTITLED "AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO RE- LATING TO EMERGENCY ORGANIZATION AND FUNCTIONS" THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. SECTION 2.72.020 OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE AND SECTION 2 OF ORDINANCE NO. 622 AMENDED, Section 2.72.020 of the South San Francisco Municipal Code and Section 2 of Ordinance No. 622 are hereby amended to read as follows: "2.72.020 Definition. As used in this Chapter, "emergency means the actual or threatened existence of conditions of disaster or of extreme peril to the safety of persons and property within this City caused by such conditions as air poll~ution, fire, flood~ storm, epidemic, riot, drought, sudden and severe energy shortage, plant or animal infestation or disease or earthquake, or other conditions, including conditions re- sulting from war or imminent threat of war, but other than conditions resulting from a labor controversy, which conditions are or are likely to be beyond the control of the services, personnel, equipment and fa- cilities of this City, requiring the combined forces of other political subdivisions to combat." SECTION 2. SECTION 2.72.090 OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE AND SECTION 9 OF ORDINANCE NO. 622 AMENDED. Section 2.72.090 of the South San Francisco Municipal Code and Section 9 of Ordinance No. 622 are hereby amended to read as follows: "2.72.090 Relationship with San Mateo Operational Area. The City of South San Francisco shall be a member of the San Mateo Operational Area Emergency Services Oranization, which serves to coordinate civil defense and disaster plans, programs and agreements among the political subdivisions in the County of San Mateo and between the political subdivisions and the Office of Emergency Services of the State of California. The Mayor or an alternate from the City Council shall be a voting member of the San Mateo Operational Area Emergency Services Council, which serves as the governing body of the San Mateo Operational Area Emergency Services Organization." SECTION 3. PUBLICATION AND EFFECTIVE DATE. This Ordinance shall be published once in the Enterprise-Journal, a newspaper of general circulation in the City of South San Francisco, as required by law, and shall become effective thirty (30) days from and after its adoption.
