AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 20.57 OF
THE SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO MUNICIPAL CODE
RE GATEWAY SPECIFIC PLAN ZONE DISTRICT
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO DOES ORDAIN AS
FOLLOWS:
WHEREAS, by Ordinance No. 867-81, adopted june 17, 1981, the City
Council adopted the Redevelopment Plan for the South San Francisco Gateway
Redevelopment project, which plan provides in Article IV(B), Section 402, that
areas will be rezoned by means of a Specific Plan Zoning Ordinance which will
specify uses and certain development standards appropriate for the project
area; and
WHEREAS, Ordinance No. 867-81 established the Gateway Specific Plan
District by adding Chapter 20.57 to the Zoning title of the Municipal Code;
and
WHEREAS, on May 2, 1991 the Planning Commission held a duly noticed
public hearing to consider Zoning Amendment ZA-91-66, and on May 2, 1991
adopted Resolution No. 2436 which recommends to the City Council approval of
Zoning Amendment ZA-91-66; and
WHEREAS, on May 22, 1991, this City Council held a duly noticed public
hearing on recommendation of the Planning Commission to amend Chapter 20.57 of
the South San Francisco Municipal Code re the Gateway Specific Plan Zone
District as hereafter provided.
NOW THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of South San Francisco does
ordain as follows:
SECTION 1. Section 20.57.200 amended.
Section 20.57.200 is hereby amended to read:
"20.57.20(J Uses Permitted
The following uses are permitted in the zones indicated:

Retail shops, convenience stores and
personal service establishments

Office buildings for professional or
business purposes

Banks, theatres and automobile service
stations

(g) Signs appurtenant to any Permitted Use

SECTION 2. Section 20.57.205 repealed.
Section 20.57.205 entitled "Development Standards for an Automobile
Storage Facility permitted by Subsection 20.57.200{i)" is hereby repealed in
its entirety.
SECTION 3. Subsection (i) to Section 20.57.250 added.
Subsection (i) is hereby added to Section 20.57.250 to read:
"(i) Athletic Clubs
4 for each 1,000
square feet of
gross floor area"
SECTION 4. Exhibit A map repealed and substituted.
Exhibit A to Ordinance 868-81, on file in the Office of the City Clerk
and incorporated in Chapter 20.57 as referenced in Section 20.57.030 is hereby
repealed and a new "Exhibit A to Ordinance 868-81" is hereby substituted
therefor as set forth by Exhibit A to this ordinance, entitled "Zoning Map
Gateway Specific Plan".
SECTION 5. Section 20.57.565 added.
Section 20.57.565 is hereby added to read:
"20.57.565 Design Review.
Each application for a precise plan shall be referred to the design
review board, which shall formulate a recommendation to the agency. The
agency shall adopt design guidelines for research and development and
office/sales/service projects. These guidelines, which may be amended from
time to time, shall provide the standards for the design review of these
projects."
SECTION 6. Section 20.57.260 repealed.
Section 20.57.260 entitled "Off-street parking--Compact spaces" is
hereby repealed in its entirety.
SECTION 7. Section 20.57.270 amended.
Section 20.57.270 is hereby amended to read:
"20.57.270 Off-street parking--Sizes of spaces.
The size of off-street parking spaces shall be as follows:
Width Depth Aisle
8.5' 18' 25'
For any space located parallel to a curb, the length shall be 20'."
SECTION 8. PUBLICATION AND EFFECTIVE DATE
This ordinance shall be published once, with the names of those City
Council members voting for or against it, in the Enterprise-Journal, a
newspaper of general circulation in the City of South San Francisco, as
required by law, and shall become effective thirty (30) days from and after
its adoption.
