RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF
$24,502 FROM THE CALIFORNIA STATE LIBRARY TO
SUPPORT PROJECT READ THROUGH THE FAMILY
LITERACY SERVICES (FLS) PROGRAM AND
AMENDING THE LIBRARY DEPARTMENT'S FISCAL
YEAR 2023 - 2024 OPERATING BUDGET AND
APPROVING BUDGET AMENDMENT 24.011.
WHEREAS, the City of South San Francisco ("City") Library Department established Project
Read to assist adults and their families in reaching literacy goals; and
WHEREAS, the California State Library has awarded the Library $24,502 to support Project
Read's FLS programs; and
WHEREAS, FLS programs support low -literacy parents and their children in North San Mateo
County by providing story times, free books, learning activities, and parenting classes for Project Read
participants; and
WHEREAS, funding will be used to strengthen our FLS programs through community outreach
and services offered to existing and new clients; and
WHEREAS, staff recommends the acceptance of funding in the amount of $24,502 from the
California State Library to support Project Read's FLS programs; and
WHEREAS, the foregoing funds will be used to amend this year's operating budget of the Library
Department.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco
that the City Council hereby accepts $24,502 from the California State Library to support Project Read's
FLS programs and amends the Library Department's FY 2023-24 operating budget through Budget
Amendment 24.011 to reflect an increase of $24,502.

At a meeting of the City Council on 9/27/2023, a motion was made by Councilmember Addiego,
seconded by Vice Mayor Nagales, that this Resolution be approved. The motion passed.
