RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF
$59,720 FROM THE CALIFORNIA STATE LIBRARY TO
SUPPORT PROJECT READ THROUGH THE ADULT
LITERACY SERVICES PROGRAM AS PROJECTED IN
THE LIBRARY DEPARTMENT'S FISCAL YEAR 2023 -
2024 REVENUE ESTIMATE.
WHEREAS, the City of South San Francisco ("City") Library Department established Project
Read to assist adults and their families in reaching literacy goals; and
WHEREAS, Project Read's Adult Literacy Services program provides literary services to low
income, low literate adults in North San Mateo County; and
WHEREAS, the California State Library has granted Project Read $59,720 to support the
continuation of the Adult Literacy Services program; and
WHEREAS, Project Read's Adult Literacy Services program includes one-on-one and small group
tutoring sessions for English speaking adults with low -literacy skills; and
WHEREAS, staff recommends the acceptance of grant funding in the amount of $59,720 from the
California State Library to support Project Read through the Adult Literacy Services program.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of South San
Francisco does hereby accept $59,720 in grant funding from the California State Library to support Project
Read through the Adult Literacy Services program as projected in the Library Department's FY 2023-2024
revenue estimate, and authorizes the City Manager or designee to execute any necessary grant agreements or
other related documents, subject to approval as to form by the City Attorney.
At a meeting of the City Council on 9/27/2023, a motion was made by Councilmember Addiego,
seconded by Vice Mayor Nagales, that this Resolution be approved. The motion passed.
