HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrd 1177-1996ORDINANCE NO. 1177-96 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SUBSECTION (h) OF SECTION 20.76.090 OF THE SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO MUNICIPAL CODE RELATED TO SIGN REGULATIONS RECITALS WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 20.76.010, the City Council of the City of San Francisco has established sign regulations to "provide minimum standards to safeguard life, health, property, and the public welfare by controlling the design, quality of materials, construction, size, location and maintenance of signs; WHEREAS, Section 20.76.090 of the South San Francisco Municipal Code regulates the placement of, among other things, political campaign signs on private property and establishes certain square foot limitations applicable thereto; WHEREAS, in prior elections, candidates have attempted to evade the sign requirements by installing signs in excess of the permitted size of signs; WHEREAS, to maintain the aesthetic quality of the City of South San Francisco the City Council determines that additional regulations are necessary with regard to the placement of political signs on private property. NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of South San Francisco does hereby ordain as follows: 1. Subsection (h) of Section 20.76.090 of the South San Francisco Municipal Code is hereby amended to read as follows: "(h) Signs on private property in connection with political campaigns or with public health, safety and welfare campaigns or patriotic or special events of general public interest. Such signs shall be limited in size to 16 square feet per sign. Each lot may have an aggregate total of 80 square feet of such signs at any one time. Where there are multiple signs each of which do not exceed the 16 square foot limitation per sign, such signs shall not be placed within two feet of another sign. Where there is more than one dwelling unit per lot, each individual unit may have an aggregate total of 16 square feet at any one time. All such signs shall be removed within ten calendar days after the event to which they relate occurs." SECTION Z:SEVERABILITY. In the event any section or portion of this ordinance shall be determined invalid or unconstitutional, such section or portion shall be deemed severable and all other sections or portions hereof shall remain in full force and effect. CENTRAL RE. CORDS NO. SECTION 3:PUBLICATIONAND EFFECTIVE DATE. This ordinance shall be published once, with the names of those City Councilmembers voting for or against it, in The Times, a newspaper of general circulation in the City of South San Francisco, as required by law, and shall become effective thirty (30) days from and after its adoption.
