Box 711 (City Hall, 400 Grand Avenue) City Council South San Francisco, CA Resolution: RES 177-2023 File Number: 23-1051 Enactment Number: RES 177-2023 RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF A DONATION OF COMPUTERS FROM GENENTECH, INC. VALUED AT $7,600 TO SUPPORT DIGITAL LITERACY CLASSES AT THE NEW LIBRARY I PARKS AND RECREATION CENTER. WHEREAS, the South San Francisco Library supports digital literacy for all elements of the community; and WHEREAS, staff recommends the acceptance of the donation of computers from Genentech to support digital literacy classes; and WHEREAS, the donation of the computers will support iOS-related computer coding classes planned for middle school students and can also be used for other classes for children, teens, adults, and seniors; and WHEREAS, classes will be led by a current Genentech staff member who will collaborate through volunteerism, program development, and resources; and WHEREAS, the City of South San Francisco ("City") strategic plan goals include the improvement of quality of life under priority #2; and WHEREAS, the City of South San Francisco ("City") strategic plan goals include the improvement of economic advancement under priority #3; and WHEREAS, receipt of this equipment does not commit the City to ongoing maintenance and funding. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of South San Francisco does hereby accept the donation of computers valued at $7,600 from Genentech to support digital literacy classes at the new Library I Parks and Recreation Center. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council hereby authorizes the City Manager to execute the documents necessary to accept the grant funding and take any other actions necessary to carry out the intent of this resolution on behalf of the City Council, subject to approval as to form by the City Attorney.
