RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF
$10,000 IN GRANT FUNDING FROM GENENTECH TO
SUPPORT THE PROJECT TECH TALKS: DISCOVER
THE FUTURE OF STEM AT THE NEW LIBRARY I
PARKS AND RECREATION CENTER AND APPROVING
BUDGET AMENDMENT 24.023.
WHEREAS, Genentech has awarded the City $10,000 in grant funding to support the project Tech
Talks: Discover the Future of STEM; and
WHEREAS, Genentech funding will be used to support a speaker series featuring science writers
and others working in STEM fields; and
WHEREAS, staff recommends the acceptance of the grant funding from Genentech to support the
project and enhance the public's understanding of STEM related topics through exploration, creativity, and
life-long learning opportunities; and
WHEREAS, the City of South San Francisco ("City") strategic plan goals include the
improvement of quality of life under priority #2; and
WHEREAS, the City of South San Francisco ("City") strategic plan goals include the
improvement of economic advancement under priority #3; and
WHEREAS, the grant funds will be used to amend Fiscal Year (FY) 2023-24 Operating Budget of
the Library Department via Budget Amendment # 24.023.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of South San Francisco
does hereby accept $10,000 in grant funding from Genentech.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council approves Budget Amendment 24.023 to
amend the Fiscal Year 2023-2024 Operating Budget.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council hereby authorizes the City Manager to
execute the documents necessary to accept the grant funding and take any other actions necessary to carry
out the intent of this resolution on behalf of the City Council, subject to approval as to form by the City
Attorney.

At a meeting of the City Council on 12/13/2023, a motion was made by Councilmember Nagales,
seconded by Vice Mayor Flores, that this Resolution be approved. The motion passed.
