MATTERS FOR CONSIDERATION
1. SSFUSD Strategic Plan - ways the City can participate as a stakeholder. (Dr. Moore,
Superintendent)
Superintendent Moore shared Strategic Planning process has been launched, and the district is
excited to engage the community with ways to determine skills and attributes regarding Portrait of a
Graduate. The community is invited to actively participate through the working group link shared
with local partners and the City. Additionally, surveys are available and have been promoted with an
equitable approach with personal outreach, including social media, phone calls, electronic devices,
and translation when needed. The City can participate by responding to these surveys and attending
the upcoming town hall. The town hall will draft collected information and feedback and will likely
be scheduled in February or March. It will be advertised once scheduled.
2. Joint Use Agreement between the City and the SSFUSD and status of Child Care
Memorandum of Understanding. (Mr. Ted O and Mr. Greg Mediati)
Assistant Superintendent O provided an update to state both agencies have been heavily involved
and are working on suggestions from both parties to have the agreement finalized by next month.
Parks and Recreation Director Mediati stated that he is working on memorializing which facilities
are available to the public and which parties will maintain them. The Joint Use Agreement (JUA)
will clarify an annual meeting for staff to review the JUA and address any concerns.
Assistant City Manager Ranals confirmed that the current JUA does not expire for a couple of years
and that the recent collaboration would be a revised agreement that includes the Child Care MOU.
City Manager Futrell and Superintended Moore will review further to determine the timeframe.
Councilmember Flores thanked Assistant Superintendent O and Parks and Recreation Director
Mediati for their collaboration and partnership.
3. Vehicle speed reduction on City streets adjacent to schools when school is in session. (Mark
Nagales, Mayor)
Mayor Nagales shared that he has been discussing ways to improve safety around the City prompted
by the traffic accident at Westborough Middle School and Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan. He is
looking to reduce speed limits around schools and reduce traffic accidents in South San Francisco.
Public Works Director Kim indicated a Capital Improvement Plan project was in legal review to
determine appropriate speed limits around local schools.
4. Discussions on public park at Sunshine Gardens Elementary School. (Mike Futrell, City
Manager)
City Manager Futrell indicated that the discussion of a public park at Sunshine Gardens Elementary
School was added at the request of Councilmember Addiego, who requested that the item be added
for future consideration.
