HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrd 1238-1999CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO ORDINANCE NO. 1238-99 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 11.08.050 OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE OF THE CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO REGARDING OB SERVANCE OF HOLIDAYS AND EXEMPTIONS FROM TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT WHEREAS, the Municipal Code currently includes February 12th, Lincoln's Birthday, as an official holiday during which parking and certain other traffic violations are not enforced; and WHEREAS, Lincoln's Birthday is now commonly celebrated in conjunction with Washington's Birthday as a single holiday on the third Monday in February called "President's Day;" and WHEREAS, the City Council desires to delete from the list of official holidays February 12th since that day is no longer observed as an official holiday; NOW THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Section 11.08.050(g) of the South San Francisco Municipal Code is hereby amended to read as follows: (g) Holidays. "Holidays" are: (1) The (2) The (3) The (4) The (5) The (6) The (7) The (8) The first day of January; third Monday in January; third Monday in February; last Monday in May; fourth day of July; first Monday in September; second Monday in October; eleventh day in November; (9) The fourth Thursday in November; (10) The Friday following the fourth Thursday in November; (11) The twenty-fifth day of December; (12) Any other day proclaimed by the city council to be a holiday. If a holiday falls upon a Sunday, the Monday following is a holiday. If a holiday falls upon a Saturday, the Friday preceding is a holiday. SECTION 2. PUBLICATION AND EFFECTIVE DATE. This ordinance shall be published once, with the names of those City Councilmembers voting for or against it, in the San Mateo Times, a newspaper of general circulation in the City of South San Francisco, as required by law, and shall become effective thirty (30) days from and after its adoption. Introduced at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of South San Francisco, held the 26th day of March , 1999. Adopted as an Ordinance of the City of South San Francisco at a regular meeting of the City Council held on the 16th day of April ,1999 by the following vote: AYES: Councilmembers Joseph A.
