HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 3840-1963RESOLUTION NO. ~ 3840 CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA A RESOLUTION URGING GOVERNOR BROWN TO INCLUDE LEGISLATION PROVIDING FOR STATE COLLEGE WITHIN THE COUNTY OF SAN MATEO ON HIS AGENDA FOR 1964 SPECIAL SESSION OF THE LEGISLATURE RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco, that: WHEREAS, legislation for the acquisition of a site and the location of a state college within the County of San Mateo, although passed by both houses of the State Legislature in the 1963 Regular Session of the Legislature, was not signed into law; and, WHEREAS, this City Council has studied the need for such educational facilities within the County of San Mateo and has determined that the County of San Mateo will, alone, produce approximately 8500 high school graduates each year, and thus generate sufficient students to support a four year state college; and, WHEREAS, it is clear that the two state colleges in adjacent counties, San Jose State College and San Francisco State College, have each reached their capacity in expansion and thus afford no solution to the problem of students from the County of San Mateo and neighboring counties; and, WHEREAS, the Board of Trustees of State Colleges has recognized the great need of such educational facilities in the County of San Mateo by assigning to this County the classification of first priority for new facilities and recommended that they should have been commenced in 1963; and, WHEREAS, that the present insufficient facilities in the Bay Area requires immediate attention seems clear to this City Council from evidence that the time construction commences, and an additional six (6) years is required for the full functioning of such an educational institution: NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY FOUND, DETERMINED AND ORDERED as follows: 1. That Governor Edmund G. Brown is hereby urged to include the subject of a possible four-year college to be located in the County of San Mateo on his agenda for con- sideration by the State Legislature in the 1964 Session of said Legislature, and thus afford an opportunity to forcefully bring forth the facts requiring the immediate consideration and establishment of such college facilities. 2. The Clerk of this Board is hereby directed to transmit certified copies of this resolution to Honorable Edmund G. Brown, Governor of the State of California; to State Senator Richard J. Dolwig; and to Assemblymen Carl A. Britschgi and Leo J. Ryan, legislative representatives of this County. I hereby certify that the foregoing resolution was regularly introduced and adopted by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco at a regular meeting held on the 16th day of December 196~ , by the following vote: AYES, COUNCILMEN Patrick E.
