CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF
$12,864 IN GRANT FUNDING TO SUPPORT PROJECT READ
SERVICES AND AMEND THE LIBRARY DEPARTMENT'S
2009/2010 OPERATING BUDGET
WHEREAS, the City of South San Francisco ("City") Library Department established Project
Read to assist adults and families in reaching literacy goals; and
WHEREAS, the California Library Literacy Services awarded a grant to the City in the
amount of $10,93 0 to fund basic one-on-one tutoring services and support programs by Proj ect Read;
and
WHEREAS, Reading is Fundamental awarded a grant to the City in the amount of $1,934 to
purchase children's books for distribution on Learning Wheels, a program of Project Read; and
WHEREAS, staff recommends the acceptance of the grant funding in the amount of $10,930
from California Library Literacy Services and $1,934 from Reading is Fundamental to support
services by Project Read; and
WHEREAS, the foregoing grant funds will be used to amend this year's operating budget of
the Library Department.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San
Francisco that the City of South San Francisco hereby accepts $10,930 from California Library
Literacy Services and $1,934 from Reading is Fundamental and amends the Library Department's
2009-2010 Operating Budget in order to reflect an increase of $12,864 to the Library Department's
budget from such grant funding.

I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was regularly introduced and adopted by the
City Council of the City of South San Francisco at a regular meeting held on the 24th day of March,
2010 by the following vote:
AYES: Councilmembers Pedro Gonzalez, Richard A. Garbarino, and Karyl Matsumoto,
Vice Mayor Kevin Mullin and Mayor Mark Addie~o
