HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 44-2010RESOLUTION NO. 44-2010 CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA A RESOLUTION ACCEPTING A GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF $98,681.00 FROM THE FEDERAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY TO PURCHASE TWO (2) SETS OF HYDRAULIC POWER UNIT, CUTTER/ SPREADER (JAWS OF LIFE), STABILIZATION KIT AND AIR BAG SYSTEM AND AMENDING THE 2009-10 OPERATING BUDGET WHEREAS, staff recommends the acceptance of a grant in the amount of $98,681.00 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency ("FEMA") in order to purchase two (2) sets of hydraulic power unit, cutter/spreader (Jaws of Life), stabilization kit and air bag system; and WHEREAS, the grant represents 80% of the total funding needed for two (2) Jaws of Life and related extrication equipment sets; and WHEREAS, per FEMA regulations, in order to receive the grant funds, the City of South San Francisco ("City") is required to pay the remaining 20% ($19,736.00), which will come from the City's Equipment Replacement fund and will be included in the 2009-10 operating budget. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco that the City Council hereby accepts a grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency in the amount of $98,681.00 to purchase two (2) sets of hydraulic power unit, cutter/spreader (Jaws of Life), stabilization kit and air bag system. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of South San Francisco, in order to receive the FEMA grant, authorizes the City to pay the remaining 20% ($19,736.00) towards the purchase of the two (2) Jaws of Life sets, and amends the 2009-10 operating budget to reflect the budgeting allocations. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of South San Francisco, authorizes the City to increase the annual Fire Department budget by $10,000 annually in order to build up sufficient replacement funds to replace this equipment in 10 years, after the equipment's useful life has expired. I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution. was regularly introduced and adopted by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco at a regular meeting held on the 12th day of May, 2010 by the following vote: AYES: Councilmembers Pedro Gonzalez, Richard A.
