CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
A RESOLUTION ACCEPTING A GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF
$100,000 FROM THE BAY AREA SUBURBAN AREA
SECURITY INITIATNE (SUASI) TO PURCHASE URBAN
SEARCH AND RESCUE (USAR) TRAINING SITE TOOLS AND
EQUIPMENT; AMENDING THE FIRE DEPARTMENT 2009-10
OPERATING BUDGET, AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY
MANAGER TO SIGN A MEMORANDUM OF
UNDERSTANDING.
WHEREAS, the City of South San Francisco (City) staff recommends the acceptance of a
grant in the amount of $100,000 from the Bay Area SUASI to purchase USAR training site tools and
equipment; and
WHEREAS, the grant represents 100% of the total funding for the USAR training site tools
and equipment; and
WHEREAS, Bay Area SUASI regulations require the City to sign a memorandum of
understanding in order to ensure that the grant funds are used for their designated purpose.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San
Francisco that the City Council hereby:
Accepts a grant from the Bay Area SUASI in the amount of $100,000 and appropriates the
same amount to the Fire Department budget for the purchase of USAR training site tools and
equipment.
2. Authorizes the City Manager to sign a Memorandum of Understanding governing the use of
the grant funds.
3. Amends the 2009-2010 Fire Department operating budget to reflect the equipment purchase,
funded by grant funds.

I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was regularly introduced and adopted by the
City Council of the City of South San Francisco at a regular meeting held on the 9th day of June,
2010 by the following vote:
AYES: Councilmembers Pedro Gonzalez, Richard A. Garbarino, and Karyl Matsumoto,
Vice Mayor Kevin Mullin and Mayor Mark Addiego
