CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE $148,500
1N GRANT FUNDING TO SUPPORT PROJECT READ
SERVICES AND AMENDING THE LIBRARY DEPARTMENT' S
2010/2011 OPERATING BUDGET
WHEREAS, the City of South San Francisco ("City") Library Department established Project
Read to assist adults and their familiies in reaching literacy goals; and
WHEREAS, the Silicon Valley Community Foundation awarded a grant to the City in the
amount of $121,500 to fund Project Read's Financial Well Being, Phase II programming; and
WHEREAS, the Kaiser Perrnanente Community Foundation awarded a grant to the City in
the amount of $27,000 to purchase children's books for distribution and support programming on
Learning Wheels, a program of Project Read; and
WHEREAS, staff recommends the acceptance of the grant funding in the amount of
$121,500 from the Silicon Valley Community Foundation and $27,000 from the Kaiser Permanente
Community Foundation to support the services by Project Read; and
WHEREAS, the foregoing grant funds will be used to amend this year's operating budget of
the Library Department.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE ][T RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San
Francisco that the City of South San Francisco hereby accepts $121,500 from the Silicon Valley
Community Foundation and $27,C-00 from the Kaiser Permanente Community Foundation and
amends the Library Department's 2010/2011 Operating Budget in order to reflect an increase of
$148,500 to the Library Department's budget from such grant funding.

I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was regularly introduced and adopted by the
City Council of the City of South San Francisco at a regular meeting held on the 11th day of August,
2010 by the following vote:
AYES: Councilmembers Pedro Gonzalez, Richard A Garbarino, and Karyl Matsumoto,
Vice Mayor Kevin Mullin and Mayor Mark Addiego
