HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 115-1997CITY RESOLUTION NO. 115-97 COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA A RESOLUTION (1) APPROVING AN AWARD OF CONTRACT TO CHIANG C.M. CONSTRUCTION, INC., FOR CITY HALL SEISMIC UPGRADE, (2) APPROVING A CHANGE ORDER TO THE CONTRACT WITH EQE INTERNATIONAL TO PROVIDE CONSTRUCTION SUPPORT SERVICES FOR THE SEISMIC UPGRADE, AND (3) APPROVING A CHANGE ORDER TO THE CONTRACT WITH SIGNET TESTING LABS TO PROVIDE SPECIAL INSPECTION AND TESTING SERVICES DURING THE SEISMIC UPGRADE WHEREAS, the City desires to award the City Hall Seismic Strengthening Contract to the lowest responsible bidder, Chiang C.M. Construction, Inc. in the amount of $1,204,459 including the additive bids; and WHEREAS, on December 18, 1996, a contract was awarded to EQE International to prepare plans and specifications for the seismic strengthening of City Hall, however, no fees were included for support services during construction and City staff has determined that a reasonable fee for such support services is$27,991; and WHEREAS, on September 11, 1996, the City Council approved a contract for Signet Testing Labs to provide special inspection and testing of the Library and City Hall Seismic Strengthening Projects, but approved the fee of $10,000 for inspection and testing of only the Library; and WHEREAS, the City now needs to increase Sigmet Testing Lab's current contract by $12,832 to provide for the necessary special inspection and testing of the City Hall Seismic Strengthening Project. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco that it hereby: (1) Approves an award of a contract in an amount not to exceed $1,204,459 to Chiang C.M. Construction Inc. for the City Hall Seismic Strengthening Project. (2) Approves a change order to the contract with EQE International to provide construction support services for the seismic strengthening of City Hall in an amount not to exceed $27,991. (3) Approves a change order to the contract with Signet Testing Labs in an amount not to exceed $12,832 to provide special inspection and testing for the City Hall Seismic upgrade. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Manager is authorized to execute these Agreements on behalf of the City.
