HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 106-1995RESOLUTION NO. 106-95 CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA A RESOLUTION APPROVING RECLASSIFICATIONS AND SALARY ADJUSTMENTS AND AMENDING THE CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO'S MANAGEMENT AND CONFIDENTIAL GROUP AND AFSCME UNIT COMPENSATION PLANS WHEREAS, a study by the Employee Relations Service concluded that the current Superintendent of Recreation and Community Services and Engineering Draftsperson are working outside the scope of duties as described in the current job specifications; and WHEREAS, both are single position classifications; and WHEREAS, the nature of the additional duties performed by the above warrants corresponding salary increases. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the city Council of the City of South San Francisco that the city does hereby approve the attached job specification reclassifying Engineering Draftsperson to Engineering Technician and approving salary ranges as described in Exhibit "A" for of the above classifications. I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was regularly introduced and adopted by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco at a regular meeting held on the 27th day of September , 1995 by the following vote: AYES: Councilmembers Jack Drago, Joseph A. These include construction inspection, traffic engineering and drafting. Work is normally performed under the general supervision of a professional engineer. An Engineering Technician may provide technical assistance and limited work direction to other personnel on an intermittent or project basis. DISTINGUISHING. CHARACTERISTICS: This classification is distinguished from the higher level of Senior Engineering Technician in that the latter is assigned to the most complex tasks and projects and performs duties with considerable independence. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Conducts traffic studies and surveys, analyzes data and prepares reports on findings. Assists in conducting public works inspections and in the coordination of construction projects. Answers inquires and attempts to resolve complaints from interested parties at the counter, by telephone and/or in writing. Participates in the preparation, filing and retrieval of a vadety of engineering maps, documents and records. Performs drafting assignments and makes engineering computations in connection with the above duties. OTHER JOB-RELATED DUTIES: May conduct field studies and complete work orders, sketches and reports attendant to such studies. May perform design assignments. May provide technical assistance or limited work direction to other personnel on an intermittent or project basis. n City of South San Francisco Engineering Technician Page 2 3/94 JOB-RELATED QUALIFICATIONS: Knowled(~e of: Principles of algebra, geometry and trigonometry; symbols, techniques and instruments used in drafting and survey work; engineering principles and practices applicable to municipal public works; terminology and conditions of public works contracts; and basic principles of public works inspection. Ability to: Accurately interpret engineering maps and plans; make engineering and field survey computations; accurately prepare and interpret plans, specifications, estimates and reports; effectively conduct public works inspections; assist in the coordination of public works projects; acquire a thorough knowledge of procedures and regulations of the Department, the City and other applicable jurisdictions; communicate effectively in wdting and verbally; work effectively witl~ those contacted in the course of work; and follow written and verbal instructions. Education and Exoedence Guidelines: Sufficient education and experience to satisfactorily perform the duties of this classification. A typical qualifying background would be completion of the twelfth grade, including or supplemented by courses in advanced mathematics and drafting; and two years of sub- professional engineering experience. Licenses and Certificates: Possession of a valid, appropriate State of California Ddver's License.
