HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 135-1992CITY RESOLUTION NO. 135-92 ~OUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA A RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING A SISTER CITY RELATIONSHIP WITH KISHIWADA, JAPAN AND AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO EXECUTE RELATED DOCUMENTS WHEREAS, representatives of Kishiwada, Japan have requested that South San Francisco officials visit Kishiwada to attend the formal signing of the Sister City agreement; and WHEREAS, the documents establishing the Sister City relationship between South San Francisco and Kishiwada, Japan will be presented on October 30, which coincides with Kishiwada's 70th anniversary as a municipality; and WHEREAS, for the past few years, South San Francisco and Kishiwada have enjoyed a cultural and friendly exchange which has enhanced the understanding and appreciation for the many positive attributes of both communities; and ~EREAS, student representatives and dignitaries of Kishiwada have visited South San Francisco during the past year and participated in tours of city facilities and local commercial industries; were the guest of honors at City sponsored Welcome Receptions, luncheons and dinners; met with local high school students and members of civic and business organizations such as the Rotary Club and the Chamber of Commerce; and experienced the pleasantries of the Bay Area through the boardwalk of Santz Cruz and the retail centers in South San Francisco and San Francisco; and WHEREAS, eighteen students of E1 Camino High School were fortunate to attend, as guests of the City of Kishiwada, the Kishiwada Children's Music Festival during the period of August 3 through 10, 1992; and WHEREAS, the enactment of a sister City agreement with Kishiwada, Japan will provide social, economic, cultural and artistic benefits to residents of both cities. NbW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the Ciny of South Francisco hereby authorizes the Mayor to sign any and all documentation presented by Kishiwada officials concerning establishing a Sister City relationship. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the city Council hereby authorizes the expenditure of up to $3,000 for air fare, lodging and meal expenses for the Mayor to attend and represent the Ciny of South San Francisco at the Sister City signing. hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was regularly introduced and adopted by the City Council of the City 9f South San Francisco at a regular meeting held on the i l4th day of October , 1992 by the following vote: AYES: NOES: ABSTA] ABSENq Councilmembers Jack Draqo, Joseph A.
