HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 134-1989CI RESOLUTION NO. 134-89 COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE ENACTMENT OF FEDERAL LEGISLATION ALLOWING LOCAL REGULATION OF CABLE TELEVISION RATES AND SERVICE TIERS WHEREA~, the Cable Act of 1984 removed local government regulation of cable television providers; and WHEREA~i, this deregulation was not in the best interest of the citizens of the City o~ South San Francisco because cable customers have been at the mercy of cable erators; and WHEREA , in many areas of South San Francisco cable is necessary simply to receive television reception whatsoever; and WHEREA , there are several pieces of proposed federal legislation including H. R. 2222, the Cable Consumer Protection Act of 1989 which would reinstitute local regulatory authority; and WHEREA~, this regulatory authority would be in the best interests of the citizens ot the City of South San Francisco. NOW, T~EREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco hat it supports the enactment of federal legislation allowing local regulation of cable television rates and service tiers, such as H.R. 2222, and that a co of this resolution be sent to South San Francisco's representative in the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate.
