CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF $25,301
TO SUPPORT PROJECT READ PROGRAMMING AND TO
AMEND THE LIBRARY DEPARTMENT' S 2010/2011
OPERATING BUDGET
WHEREAS, the City of South San Francisco ("City') Library Department established Project
Read to assist adults and their families in reaching literacy goals; and
WHEREAS, the California Library Literacy Services awarded a grant to the City in the
amount of $20,000 to fund Proj ect Read's Families for Literacy and Learning Wheels programming;
and
WHEREAS, the Reading is Fundamental awarded a grant to the City in the amount of $801
to purchase children's books for distribution during visits to the California State Preschools and Title
One schools; and
WHEREAS, the United Way of the Bay Area awarded a grant to the City in the amount of
$4,000 establish a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site; and
WHEREAS, the South San Francisco Women's Club awarded a grant to the City in the
amount of $500 to purchase dictionaries and workbooks iEor adult learners and supplies for
workshops; and
WHEREAS, staff recommends the acceptance of the grant funding in the amount of $20,000
from the California Library Literacy Services, $801 from Reading is Fundamental, $4,000 from
United Way of the Bay Area, and $500 from the South San Francisco Women's Club to support the
services by Project Read; and
WHEREAS, the foregoing grant funds will be used to amend this year's operating budget of
the Library Department.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San
Francisco that the City of South San Francisco hereby accepts $20,000 from the California Library
Literacy Services, $801 from Reading is Fundamental, $4,000 from United Way of the Bay Area,
and $500 from the South San Francisco Women's Club and arnends the Library Department's 2010-
2011 Operating Budget in order to reflect an increase of $25,301 to the Library Department's budget
from such grant funding.
I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was regularly introduced and adopted by the
City Council of the City of South San Francisco at a regular meeting held on the 26t" day of January
2011 by the following vote:
AYES: Councilmembers Mark Addiego, Pedro Gonzalez, and Karyl Matsumoto,
Vice Mavor Richard A. Garbarino and Mavor Kevin Mullin
