RESOLUTION NO. 18~89
COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE CREATION OF
THE SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA RIDGE TRAIL
WHEREAS, for over one year the Bay Area Ridge Trail Council, a public-private
partnership of fifty citizen groups, land management agencies, private interests,
and volunteers has been working on a plan for a recreation trail running along
the ridges and hills that circle the Bay; and
WHEREAS, this 400 mile trail will be created using existing trails on public
lands wherever possible and will provide multiuse public, recreational access
along the!ridges of the hills and mountains in the nine Bay Area Counties and
Santa Cruz County; and
WHEREAS, the Ridge Trail will serve the needs of hikers, equestrians,
bicyclists, the disabled, joggers, families, and many others, and will focus
attention on the recreation opportunities of the Bay Area; and
WHEREAS, establishment of the San Francisco Bay Area Ridge Trail will serve
as a model of community cooperation for the rest of the nation;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of South
San Francisco supports the efforts of the public agencies, non-profit
organizations, citizen groups, and private sector representatives who are
working tO plan the Trail and to organize construction, maintenance, signing
and volunteer support for the San Francisco Bay Area Ridge Trail.
I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was regularly introduced
and adopted by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco at a
regular meeting held on the 25th day of January , 1989, by the
following vote:

Councilmembers Mark N. Addiego, Jack Drago, Richard A. Halley,
Gus Nicolopulos, and Mayor Roberta Cerri Teglia
