A RESOLUTION AMENDING RESOLUTION
NO. 41-86 AND SETTING NEW CONTROL
POINTS FOR THE MANAGEMENT AND
CONFIDENTIAL EMPLOYEE GROUP
BE!IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San
FrancisCo that Resolution No. 41-86, a Resolution Setting Salary
Policy, iBenefits, and Working Conditions for Members of the
Management and Confidential Employee Group in Accordance with the
ProvisiOns of the Management and Confidential Employee
Compensation Program, as amended, is further amended in the
following manner:
Appendix "1" of Resolution No. 41-86, as
amended, is further amended to provide a
control point increase of four percent {4%)
effective with the pay period including July
1, 1988, to be followed by another four
percent {4%} effective with the pay period
including July 1, 1989 as set forth in
Appendix "1".
The salary rate for Fire Marshall shall be
established at the Fire Battalion Chief
control point as set forth in Appendix "1".
Article XII, Section 2, of Resolution No. 41-
86, regarding Payment of Unused Accumulated
Sick Leave Accrued After January 1, 1986, is
amended as set forth in Attachment "A".
Article XXII, regarding Reimbursement for
Educational Expense, will be added to
Resolution No. 41-86 as set forth in
Attachment "B".
I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was regularly
introduced and adopted by the City Council of the City of South
San Francisco at a regular meeting held on the 14th day

XII. SICK LEAVE, Section 2. Payment of Unused Accumulated Sick
Leave Accrued After January 1, 1986
Upon death, separ.ation from City employment as a result of a
work-related injury or illness as defined below, or full service
retirement after twenty {20) years of service or retirement at
age fiftY {50), an employee shall be paid for one-half {1/2) of
the accumulated sick leave at the time of separation, retirement
or death:. Payment of unused sick leave hours shall be made at
the employee's hourly rate. No employee shall, however, receive
payment for any recorded hours in excess of one thousand two
hundred {1,200) and the maximum payable hours shall be six
hundred 600), except that those employees who have exceeded one
thousand two hundred (1,200) hours as of June 30, 1990, will
receive payment for one-half (1/2) of the recorded unused sick
leave hoUrs earned through June 30, 1990. This accrual shall
include the amount credited, if any, on January 1, 1986, for the
period when the 90-day sick leave plan was in effect.
Separation from City Employment as a Result of a Work-
Related Injury or illness
A separation arising out of a work-related disability which is of
a serious or life-threatening nature that prohibits the employee
from engaging in his/her usual occupation or a similar
occupation, and which severely limits the employee's mobility and
ability to engage in productive and gainful employment.

XXII. REIiMBURSEMENT FOR EDUCATIONAL EXPENSE
An employee who takes a job-related course at an accredited
institui~ion of learning shall be eligible to receive
reimbursement of fifty per cent (50%) not to exceed $500.00 per
fiscal year for the costs of tuition, fees and course materials
upon the successful completion of the course and upon the
employee having achieved a grade of "C" or better, or "Pass" if
the courlse was a pass/fail course. In order to qualify for
reimbursement, the employee must:
PriOr to enrollment, receive the written approval of the
department head concerning the particular course. To be
approved by the department head, he/she must find that the
course is job-related after reviewing the request which
brie!fly describes why the employee believes the course to be
job-rel ated.
Proviided that the department head finds that the course is
job-related and approves the employee's request, the
emplloyee shall submit a request for reimbursement to the
City Manager, such request shall include:
A. A copy of the department head's written approval of the
course, and
B. A copy of the employee's grade for the course, and
C. Receipts for all expenses related to the course with a
total amount the employee wishes reimbursed.
This policy will become effective upon its adoption by the City
Council and will not apply to any coursework initiated prior to
the effective date of this policy.
For every cumulative $500.00 of reimbursement for educational
expense which the employee receives, the employee must agree to
remain i~ City employment for an additional twelve (12) month
period. Should the employee voluntarily terminate City
employment for any reason other than illness or injury before
completing this employment obligation, the employee will be
required ]to reimburse the City for the proportional amount of
the reimbursement . Example: An employee who has received
$500.00 n tuition reimbursement would be required to reimburse
the City $250.00 if he/she left City employment after completing
only six (6) months of the required twelve (12) months of
additional employment.
The City Manager shall approve the employee's request for
reimbursement provided that the employee has prepared the request
in compliance with this policy.
