CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING RECLASSIFICATION OF
AN EMPLOYEE FROM THE POSITION OF LEAD PLANT
MECHANIC TO THE POSITION OF WQCP MAINTENANCE
SUPERVISOR AND SETTING SALARY SCHEDULE FOR
THE POSITION
WHEREAS, Personnel Rule 4.04 provides that reclassification of employees into new
job classifications requires authorization by the City Council; and
WHEREAS, the Human Resources Department conducted a study to determine whether
an employee in the position of Lead Plant Mechanic ( "Incumbent "), at the Water Quality Control
Plant ( "WQCP "), is working out of class. The study concluded that Incumbent is performing the
duties of a higher level classification and should be reclassified into a supervisory position; and
WHEREAS, on February 15, 2011, the Personnel Board approved the amendment to the
existing job classification of WQCP Maintenance Supervisor, bringing it into compliance with
the current needs of the WQCP; and
WHEREAS, the Public Works Director and WQCP Superintendent recommended
Incumbent be placed into the classification of WQCP Maintenance Supervisor using the job
specifications approved by the Personnel Board; and
WHEREAS, the study further recommends that the salary for the WQCP Maintenance
Supervisor classification be set at a level 5% higher than the base rate of the Lead Plant
Mechanic classification, which is the highest level classification the WQCP Maintenance
Supervisor would supervise, keeping it consistent with its ranking and affording incentive to
promote into the Supervisor classification.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of South San
Francisco that the City Council hereby authorizes the reclassification of Incumbent into the
classification of WQCP Maintenance Supervisor and approves the salary schedule for the
classification.
