HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 55-1988RESOLUTION NO. 55-88 CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA A RESOLUTION OPPOSING PROPOSITION 72 THE "SPENDING LIMIT IMPROVEMENT AND ENFORCEMENT ACT" WHEREAS, by Resolution No. 50-88 the City Council endorsed Proposition 71, the "Gove-nment Spending Limitation and Accountability Act", which contains provisions which are at odds with the provisions of Proposition 72; and WHEREAS, Proposition 72 would transfer over $700 million from the State's general fund to the state transportation account for use for highways and transient by dedicating the sales tax on gasoline to transportation; and WHEREAS, the requirement that certain sales tax revenues be expended only for transportation purposes results in an increase in the amount of revenue available for transportation purposes while reducing the amount available for education, health, welfare and other general fund expenditures; and WHEREAS, Proposition 72 does not provide a spending limit adjustment for economic ~rowth or for schools or local government; NOW TFEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of South San Francisco opposes Proposition 72, the "Spending Limit Improvement and Enforcemert Act". I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was regularly introduced and adopted by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco at a regular meeting held on the 11th day of May , 1988, by the following vote: AYES: Councilmembers Richard A. Haffey, Gus Nicolopulos, and Roberta Cerri Teglia NOES: None ABSTAIN: Councilmember Jack Drago ABSENT: Councilmember Mark N. Addiego City Clerk
