By setting strong standards to reduce harmful emissions from our cars and light trucks, and ensuring infrastructure is available for clean alternative fuels, we will reduce our dependence on oil, create new jobs, protect consumers' pocketbooks, ensure our children breathe clean air, reduce global warming pollution, and make our state a global leader in clean car technology. The California Air Resources Board is working in partnership with key federal agencies to develop the next generation of vehicle standards and will soon vote on important updates to the Clean Cars Program. We need to ensure that California continues as a national leader by adopting robust clean car standards. I urge the California Air Resources Board to adopt the strongest possible standards for the following programs: • Low Emission Vehicle Program (LEV III - Criteria Pollutant) • Vehicle Global Warming Standards (LEV III -GHG) • Zero Emission Vehicle Program (ZEV) • Clean Fuels Outlet Name: Organization: Street Address: City: State: Zip: Phone: E -mail: Website: Please email form to meaan_ norris ©sierraclubcalifornia.org or fax to (916) 557 -9669. *Sierra Club California is part of the Clean Cars Coalition. Clean Cars Coalition June 28, 2010 Dear Mayor Mullin, Sierra Club California has been working hard for the past decade to ensure strong standards are met when it comes to reducing harmful pollutants coming from our cars and light duty trucks. As you may know, California has been a proven national leader when it comes to setting the bar for cleaner cars. In April of this year, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency adopted the first ever national greenhouse gas standards based on California's landmark clean car programs adopted by the California Air Resources Board (CARB). Sierra Club California wants to ensure that CARB adopts strong clean car programs that put greener vehicles on the road now. This is why Sierra Club California is asking for your endorsement to ensure California has the strongest standards set by CARB in reducing greenhouse gas and smog forming pollution spewing from our passenger vehicles. We are also working on encouraging CARB to set standards that will help advance greener vehicle technology that will make plug -in hybrids and battery electric vehicles a viable option for consumers. CARB will be voting on updates to these standards in April of 2011, while the US EPA and the White House are drafting proposed standards for 2017 to 2025. CARB's actions in April will hopefully set a strong example for the rest of the nation once again. Your support now will help to ensure our children breathe cleaner air, save us money at the gas pump, reduce dependence on oil and create jobs through advancements in clean car technology. Attached you will find a letter to you from our Director, Bill Magavern, a sample city support letter to CARB, a fact sheet on our efforts to adopt robust standards when it comes to making our vehicles greener, as well as an endorsement form that we need you to fill out and send in.
