HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 109-1987 RESOLUTION NO. 109-87 CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA A RESOLUTION OPPOSING THE ELIMINATION OF HETCH HETCHY WATER SUPPLY SYSTEM WHEREAS, the Congress of the United States approved the construction of the Hetch Hetchy Water Supply System in 1913; and WHEREAS, the San Francisco Bay Area has grown and prospered during the Twentieth C~ntury as a result of a dependable water supply from the Hetch Hetchy Wate~ System; and WHEREAS, the Hetch Hetchy System now serves more than two million people, over 52,000 of whom live in South San Francisco; and WHEREAS'1 the Secretary of Interior has proposed to eliminate the Hetch Hetchy Wate~ Supply System; and WHEREAS! by such action, the Secretary of Interior would eliminate a dependable ~ource of water of the highest purity and would eliminate an environmentally safe and economical source of hydroelectric energy; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco: 1. i That it vigorously opposes the destruction of the Hetch Hetchy Water Supply System as it would adversely affect the lives of the citizens of South San Francisco, the San Francisco Bay Area and the State of California. e to enlighter Power Systen That is supports the City and County of San Francisco's efforts the Secretary of Interior on the importance of this Water and to the people of the Bay Area and the State. 3. That the City Clerk is directed to transmit copies of this Resolution to the Secretary of Interior, all Members of Congress of the United States which represent San Mateo and San Francisco Counties, and to the City and Count~ of San Francisco. I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was regularly introduced and adopted by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco at a regular! meeting held on the 23rd day of September , 198 7 , by the following vote: AYES: ~ouncilmembers John "Jack" Drago, Richard A.
