RESOLUTION NO~ 124-87
COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
A RESOLUTION UPDATING BENEFITS
FOR MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
WHEREAS, the City Council last established benefits for the members of the
City CounCil by Resolution No. 151-84; and
WHEREAS, the City Council established a policy of comprehensively setting
forth the details of benefits and associated City payments for City employees
during 1983-84; and
WHEREAS, it is appropriate that the benefits and associated City payment
provided the members of the City Council be set forth to parallel the benefits
of the Executive Management Compensation Program so the benefits can be admin-
istered i~ a manner consistent with City benefits policies; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has determined that the following benefits and
City payments shall be available to each current member of the City Council
effective January 1, 1988.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South
San Francisco that:
1. ~ETIREMENT BENEFITS
Pursuant to the Public Employment Retirement Law, a member of the City
Council qOalifies for membership in the Public Employees' Retirement System.
A Councilmember who files an election for membership with the System's Board of
Administration shall receive retirement benefits established for Miscellaneous
Employees! 2% at age 60 Plan. The City shall pay on behalf of each member of
the Council who has elected for membership with the System the seven percent (7%)
of base salary currently prescribed by the System for member contributions.
2. iNSURANCE BENEFITS
Health Insurance. Subject to the terms and conditions of the
City's contracts with health insurance carriers, each member of the City
Council shall be permitted to select health insurance coverage for themselves
and theirleligible dependents from one of the health plans offered to City
employees..
~ The City shall pay the premium costs for eligible members and their
dependents, up to the maximum paid under the Executive Management Compensation
Program, to the insurance carrier for the plan selected by each member. Coverage
shall become effective on the first day of the month following the month of
enrollment.
Bi Dental Insurance~ Subject to the terms and conditions of the City's
Dental Insurance Plan, members of the City Council and their eligible dependents
shall be ~rovided dental insurance with no premium costs to the members or their
eligible dependents. Coverage shall become effective on the first day of the
month fol~lowing six (6) full months from the date the member was sworn into
office.
C~ Vision Insurance. Subject to the terms and conditions of the City's
Vision InSurance Plan, members of the City Council and their eligible dependents
shall be Provided vision insurance with no premium costs to the members or their
eligible dependents. Coverage shall become effective on the first day of the
month following the month of enrollment.
Db Life and Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurances. Subject to
the terms!and conditions of the City's Life and Accidental Death and Dismember-
ment Insurance Plan, members of the City Council shall be provided life and
accidental death and dismemberment insurance in the following minimum amounts:
Term Life Insurance with a face value of Five Thousand Dollars ($5,000.00)
Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance in the amount of Five Thousand
Dollars ($5,000.00)
with no premium costs to the members. Coverage shall become effective on the
first day!of the month following the month of enrollment.
E~ Termination of Coverage. All insurance coverages shall terminate on
the last Bay of the month in which a Councilmember vacates his or her elective
office.
Fi Discretionary Benefit Option. Any discretionary benefit or insurance

conversioB ~ption available under the Management Compensation Program
shall be available to eligible Councilmembers.
3. P~YSICAL FITNESS
Ai Recreation Facilities and Programs. Each member of the City Council
shall be entitled to free admission to City recreation facilities. Each member
shall be entitled to free enrollment in up to five (5) recreation classes during
a twelve (12) month period. Member admission to recreation facilities and recrea-
tion clasSes shall be accomplished in conformance with the rules and regulations
established by the Parks and Recreation Department.
Physical Examination. Each member of the City Council may undergo an
annual comprehensive multiphasic physical examination at City expense.
4. BENEFITS GENERALLY
Changes to or additional benefits offered as a result of future amendments
to the Executive Management Compensation Program shall apply to members of the

City Council If due to retirement status or other individual situations a
Councilme~ber has a problem with overlapping benefits, the City will coordinate
the benefits and endeavor to do so to the Councilmember's advantage.
I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was regularly introduced and
adopted bY the City Council of the City of South San Francisco at a regular
meeting held on the 9th day of December , 19 87 by the following vote:
